Build a knowledge base your assistant can trust

Your assistant is only as good as what it knows. How to feed it your website, files and FAQs, check its answers and keep it up to date.

On this page

Your assistant answers from your knowledge base and nothing else. A few minutes spent there pays off in every conversation.

Start with your website

When you create an assistant it reads your homepage first, so it can answer straight away. Then run a full scan: BusinessLyft follows your sitemap and the links on your site and learns up to 50 pages by default. You can raise the limit to 500 and skip paths you don't want, like a blog archive. It takes a few minutes and runs in the background.

Only need one page? Add it on its own with Just this page.

Add what your website doesn't say

The best answers often live outside your website:

  • Files: PDF, Word (.docx), text, Markdown and HTML documents, like price lists, policies or menus.
  • FAQs: question-and-answer pairs for the things customers ask most.
  • Text: paste anything else, such as a shipping policy or opening-hours exceptions.

Read it, edit it

Everything the assistant learns becomes a document you can open and edit. Fix a wrong price or tidy a messy page and the assistant uses your version from then on.

One thing to know: if a document came from a source (like your website), re-syncing that source overwrites your edits. For lasting changes, update the original page or add a text source.

Keep it fresh

When your site changes, re-sync it. BusinessLyft re-crawls and updates only the pages that changed.

Check the answers

Ask your real customer questions in the Playground. Each answer shows the sources it used and the steps it took, and replies cite the pages they came from, so you can see exactly where an answer came from. If something's missing, add it and ask again.
